Nashville, TN: The MLIS and WMLIS announced today that they will be expanding into Nashville for the 2027-28 season.
The team’s will be owned by Jeremy and Paula Moorman.
Jeremy is no stranger to the sport, having a hand as player, coach and referee. Mr. Moorman was a massive fan of the old Cleveland Force back in the 1980’s. He was instrumental in the operations of another team that won the USL Second Division Championship back in 2008, the Cleveland City Stars. Him and his wife relocated to Nashville a few years ago, where they became avid supporters of Major League Soccer’s Nashville SC.
While a team name and brand have not been revealed as of this post, the Moorman’s stated they want local fans to decide on the identity.
Jeremy made his long and short term ambitions with the team known. “Our short-term goal is to create an entertaining experience for Nashville fans and put competitive teams on the field. Long-term, we want to make a real difference in the community, establish the organization as a world-class example of an indoor soccer club and, hopefully, run out of room in the trophy case.”
Commissioner Bernie Lilavois praised the Moorman’s expansion efforts into Nashville. “Nashville has become an exciting soccer market, and we believe it has tremendous potential within both MLIS and WMLIS. Jeremy and Paula are approaching this opportunity thoughtfully and giving themselves the time needed to build meaningful relationships throughout the community. We are excited to welcome them to the leagues and watch their vision for men’s and women’s professional indoor soccer in Nashville take shape.”
Of note, the teams won’t be kicking off until the 2027-28 MLIS and WMLIS seasons, giving the league and the Moorman’s plenty of time to work on arena availability and practice facilities for the team. This is a great decision, as this amount of time will give the franchise plenty of wiggle room and opportunities to establish community connections.
With the current state of the MLIS alignment, Nashville does fill a rather interesting hole in the league footprint, with Orlando and Tampa to the southeast and Amarillo to the southwest. As it stands, Nashville isn’t that far from North Conference teams such as Chicago or Cleveland, yet Colorado and Utah would be quite a trip for the Music City based squads. With all Tennessee based teams, geography seems to be a bit of a melting pot, a perfect analogy for a music gathering ground like Nashville Tennessee itself.
